The world of a model isn’t a world for everyone. Its cruel, vicious, and you never know who’s on your side or wants to watch you fall. Leanne Hughes found this out the hard way when she was fired by her agency for newer, younger talent. She never forgot this slight and began drowning her sorrows in alcohol and the company of men to affirm her attractiveness. One such night led to the conception of a little blonde freckled girl named Lily.Aside from the freckles, and slight heterochromia, she was the spitting image of Leanne in nearly every way. This was perfect! If they wanted a younger fresher face, they’d have one in her own daughter. As soon as Lily could walk, practice began. She’d teach her all about makeup and posture and carrying herself with the dignity and poise of a celebrity.Because of this, Lily’s childhood was very rough. Other kids would make fun of her for excessive makeup or walking the way she did and if she ever removed the makeup in the school restroom, she’d get yelled at by her mother. Making friends in highschool wasn’t as hard but forming any type of meaningful relationship was hard. The other kids either thought that she saw herself as superior to them and hated her, or they felt like she was too good for him. The only time she felt remotely normal was when she joined the swim team at school since it allowed her to interact with people with no makeup on she could be judged by what she could do instead of what she looked like.Ever since she was little, Lily has always loved animals. A few treasured memories of modeling were when she could work with animals like puppies, cats, and even a turtle once. During a school job fair, she realized that she had no idea what she wanted to do with her life until she met a representative from a South Carolina Veterinary College. It seemed perfect. She’d be able to see animals all types and help them feel better, putting a smile on not just their faces, but their owners as well. She took the flyer and went home expecting her mother to at least be happy for making this decision on her own. Instead, the flyer was torn to shreds and she was screamed at for even humoring another job.That was when Lily truly realized that everything her mother seemingly did for her was all for herself. She found herself beginning to loathe her mother and wanted to move far from her. Luckily, the college was in South Carolina which is quite literally on the opposite side of the states. She decided to apply and after graduating, stayed in L.A. for one more year to just try and convince her mother to be okay with her choosing a different path in her life. When she realized it was no use, she packed up in secret, left a note apologizing and fled to South Carolina.Two years into her studies, Lily has started shadowing a vet, working as an assistant and learning the ropes between classes. She dyed her hair and refused to put on enough makeup to hide her freckles, wanting to be seen as herself instead of a model. During a shift, one of the animals she was helping care for took a turn for the worse and despite the best efforts of her and the vet, the animal passed away. Seeing how distraught this made her, the vet suggested that Lily take some time to clear her head, showing the flyer to work as a counsellor at Sunny Springs. Seeing it as a good way to make money, clear her head, and help some kids have fun, Lily signed up went on her way
